DENVER – Four Bison reached double digits in scoring as the North Dakota State women's basketball team came up short at Denver, 83-71, on Saturday afternoon Hamilton Gymnasium.
Heaven Hamling led the way for the Bison (14-10, 8-6 Summit) with a team-high 14 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Abby Graham added 12 points with five rebounds, while
Elle Evans contributed 10 points with three rebounds.
Kristina Ekofo Yomane netted a season-high 10 points with a team-best six rebounds to round out the top performers.
As a team, NDSU shot 37.1 percent (23-62) from the field with nine different players reaching the scoring column. The Bison also tallied 32 points in the paint and the bench added in 30 points.
Denver (11-15, 7-8 Summit) got off to a fast start with an 11-2 run in the first quarter. The Pioneers then pushed their advantage to 39-32 at the intermission. The Bison fought back in the second half cutting the deficit down to 73-70 with 2:33 to play in the fourth quarter after
Emily Behnke netted a pair of free throws. However, the Pioneers closed the game on a 10-1 run hitting eight free throws on 10 attempts to seal the 83-71 victory.
NDSU will be back in action hosting Kansas City on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
