Heaven Hamling notched her second 30-point performance of the season to help lift the North Dakota State women's basketball team past Western Illinois, 82-74, on Saturday afternoon at Western Hall.
With the win, NDSU finishes the regular season with four straight wins and an 18-10 (12-6 Summit) overall record. It marks the most wins in a single-season since 2004-05 when the Bison posted a 26-1 overall record.
Heaven Hamling netted a game-high 31 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the field. She also connected on a game-high five three-pointers to reach a career-high 71 this season, which ranks fifth on the NDSU single-season list. Hamling added four rebounds and three assists to her stat line.
Taylor Brown notched her second double-double of the season with a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with 12 points.
Elle Evans reached double figures in scoring for the 12th straight game with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field.
Abby Schulte also passed out a game-high five assists with seven points and four rebounds.
As a team, NDSU shot 49.2 percent (32-65) from the field and 62.5 percent (10-16) from the free throw line. The Bison, who never trailed in the contest, had 10 different players reach the scoring column and netted 40 points in the paint.
After opening up a 10-point edge to begin the fourth quarter to make the score 63-53 following a triple from Hamling, Western Illinois (10-19, 5-13 Summit) worked its way back with five straight points to cut the edge down to three, 75-72, with 4:02 to play. The Bison responded with a crucial 7-2 run capped off by a triple from Schulte to push the lead back up to 82-74 with 1:09 remaining. NDSU held off Western Illinois the rest of the way to earn the 82-74 win.
NDSU clinched the second seed in the Summit League Tournament and will face the winner of seventh-seeded Denver and 10th-seeded Kansas City on Saturday, March 4 in the quarterfinal round at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
