NDSU Women’s Basketball Stumbles Against Kansas City in Summit League Tournament

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The second-seeded North Dakota State women's basketball team came up short against 10th-seeded Kansas City, 71-64, in the Summit League Tournament quarterfinal round on Saturday afternoon at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

Heaven Hamling paced the Bison (18-11, 12-6 Summit) with 16 points and added five assists and four rebounds to her stat line. Elle Evans reached double figures in scoring for the 13th straight game with 14 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals. Emily Behnke rounded out the top performers with seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.

As a team, the Bison shot 35.5 percent (22-62) from the field and 65.2 percent (15-23) from the free throw line. NDSU netted 34 points in the paint and the bench added in 19 points.

After trailing at halftime, 41-29, the Bison stormed back closing the third quarter on an 11-0 run capped off by back-to-back jumpers from Hamling to make the score 56-54 at the end of the third frame. The Roo's (9-22, 3-15 Summit) quickly stretched their lead back up to seven, 63-56, after Stafford E'Lease knocked down a three with 6:23 to play.

The Bison made one final push after Hamling netted a triple and Behnke added a free throw to pull back within three, 67-64, with 2:22 remaining. However, NDSU couldn't pull off the comeback and dropped the contest, 71-64.
