GREELEY, Colo. – The North Dakota State baseball team blanked Northern Colorado, 10-0, in seven innings to earn the series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Jackson Field.
With the win, the Bison extend their season-best win streak to eight games and improve to 19-26 (13-5 Summit) on the season, while Northern Colorado drops to 8-31 (5-13 Summit).
Peter Brookshaw set the tone in the opening frame blasting his team-high 12th home run of the season to left center to make the score 1-0.
Stephen Lund and
Davis Hamilton then pushed the lead to 3-0 in the second inning after they each connected on RBI singles.
Terrell Huggins followed it up in the third with a two-run single to extend the edge to 5-0.
After
Will Busch delivered an RBI single in the fourth, NDSU cracked the game open scoring three runs on three hits in the sixth inning to make the score 9-0. Hamilton began the frame scoring on a passed ball before
Cadyn Schwabe added an RBI single into right field.
James Dunlap finished out the inning reaching on an RBI fielder's choice. Schwabe sealed the 10-0 run rule victory in the seventh with an RBI ground out.
NDSU totaled 11 hits as a team with Huggins connecting on a game-high three in four at-bats. He also added two RBI and one run to his stat line.
Parker Puetz (2-0) notched his first career complete game and shutout tossing five strikeouts over 7.0 innings with one walk.
NDSU will be back in action on Friday hosting Omaha. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
