NDSU Men’s Basketball Hosts Denver, Oral Roberts this Week

The Games: The North Dakota State men's basketball team (8-10 overall, 1-2 Summit) will host a pair of Summit League games this week inside the Scheels Center. The Bison play Denver on Thursday, Jan. 18, and Oral Roberts on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Where to Watch: Both games will be broadcast on WDAY Xtra locally and available to subscribers of the Summit League Network through the Midco Sports Plus app.
 
Radio: Sam Neidermann (play-by-play) and Dexter Werner (analyst) will call both games on 107.9 The Fox. Broadcasts can also be streamed on the NDSU Athletics app, as well as at GoBison.com/AllAccess for free all season long.
 
Against Denver: Thursday will be the 29th meeting between NDSU and Denver dating back to the 1993-94 season. The Bison hold a 21-7 advantage in the all-time series after winning the past 11 games vs. the Pioneers, including a sweep of both meetings last season.
 
Last Time vs. Denver: Boden Skunberg poured in a career-high 30 points to lift the Bison to a 78-70 victory over Denver on Feb. 11 last season inside the Scheels Center. NDSU improved to 8-6 in Summit League play, climbing to third in the league standings.
        Skunberg drained 6-of-10 from beyond the arc on his way to a career-high 30 points, and he added seven rebounds. NDSU junior Grant Nelson nearly posted a triple-double, finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 8 assists. Freshman Damari Wheeler-Thomas scored 13 for NDSU.
        Denver led 56-55 with 7:00 remaining before Skunberg and Nelson made threes to spark an 8-0 Bison run that gave NDSU the lead for good. The Bison pushed the advantage to 10 points with just under two minutes left.
 
Against Oral Roberts: Saturday will be the 39th meeting all-time between North Dakota State and Oral Roberts, with the Bison leading the series 20-18. NDSU has won 15 of the 24 meetings since ORU returned to The Summit League in the 2014-15 season. The Golden Eagles won all three meetings last season, after the Bison swept the three showdowns in the 2021-22 season.
 
From Downtown: The Bison rank 17th in the nation for three-point shooting at 38.6 percent. NDSU has made 38-of-80 (47.5 percent) from beyond the arc over the past four games.
 
Trio of Career Highs: Three different Bison starters have posted career-high point totals over the past three games. Sophomore Damari Wheeler-Thomas led NDSU with a career-high 30 points at Omaha on Jan. 13, redshirt freshman Noah Feddersen scored 18 points at Kansas City on Jan. 11, and Tajavis Miller scored a career-high 23 at Eastern Washington on Jan. 6.
 
Over the Past Five Games
  • Boden Skunberg is averaging 19.0 points on 50-percent shooting.
  • Andrew Morgan is averaging 17.6 points on 64-percent shooting.
  • Tajavis Miller and Jacari White have combined to make 20-of-34 from beyond the arc (59 percent).
  • NDSU's opponents have taken 42 more free throws than the Bison (121-79).
  • NDSU's opponents have shot 52 percent overall.
 
Approaching 1,000: Boden Skunberg has scored 953 points in his career, and is looking to become the 40th player in NDSU history to reach 1,000 career points. NDSU's most recent addition to the 1,000-Point Club was Grant Nelson, who reached the milestone on March 5 last season in the quarterfinal victory over South Dakota at the Summit League Tournament.
 
Bonus Basketball: NDSU's four overtime games this season are its most since also playing four overtime games in 2009-10. The Bison had six overtime games in the 2002-03 season.
