NDSU Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision Against Omaha

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision against Omaha on Saturday afternoon at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

Ali Hinze led the way for NDSU (9-10, 5-5 Summit) with a team-best nine kills to go along with five digs. Eke Denessen handed out a team-high 13 assists with four digs and Logan O'Brien totaled a team-best eight digs on the defensive side.

Omaha (11-10, 9-1 Summit) quickly built a 16-9 advantage in the opening frame following a kill from Kali Jurgensmeir. NDSU pulled its way back assembling a late 5-1 run to cut the edge down to two, 21-19, after a solo block from Arianna Blohm. However, the Mavericks then closed the set on a 4-1 run to win the frame, 25-20.

NDSU responded in the second set as both teams fought their way through seven tie scores and three lead changes. The two teams traded points until Hinze connected on a kill and an ace to tie the set, 19-19. Omaha quickly regained the lead, 23-22, before the Bison closed the set on a 4-1 run to steal the frame, 26-24.

Omaha pushed back over the final two sets hitting above .350 in both frames. The Mavericks quickly doubled up the Bison, 14-7, in the third set with another kill from Jurgensmeir. Omaha went on to win the set, 25-16. The Mavericks carried the momentum into fourth set running out to a 16-4 lead with a kill from Amanda Hardt. Omaha, who posted a .556 hitting percentage in the set, closed out the frame, 25-10, and the match, 3-1.

NDSU will be back in action at Oral Roberts on Thursday night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
