NDSU Volleyball Tops Oral Roberts in Five Sets

TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota State volleyball team grinded out a 3-2 win over Oral Roberts on the road on Thursday night at Mabee Center.

Ali Hinze paced the Bison (10-10, 6-5 Summit) posting a double-double with a team-high 13 kills and 13 digs, while Arianna Blohm contributed 12 kills with a .357 hitting percentage and three blocks. Maddy Dombeck added a match-best 27 assists with 10 digs and Logan O'Brien tallied a match-high 21 digs with 10 assists.

After Oral Roberts (4-19, 2-8 Summit) grabbed the opening frame, 25-21, NDSU fought back in a back-and-forth second frame that saw 16 tie scores and seven lead changes. The Golden Eagles stole a 19-17 lead late in the set before the Bison answered with five straight points of their own to regain the edge, 22-19, following a pair of service aces from Dombeck. NDSU went on to hold off Oral Roberts the rest of way, 27-25.

The Bison carried the momentum into the third frame notching a match-best .417 hitting percentage in the set. NDSU quickly opened up 14-9 advantage with a kill from Ally Barth to force an Oral Roberts timeout. The Bison then stretched their lead to up to 19-10 with a kill from Emma Tallman. NDSU went on to win the set, 25-17.

The Golden Eagles battled back in the fourth set running out to an early 8-1 lead after an error.  The Bison pulled their way back trimming the deficit down to two, 17-15, with a kill from Hinze. The Golden Eagles answered with a quick 3-1 run to push their lead back up to 20-16 and went on to win the set, 25-20.

NDSU doubled up Oral Roberts, 6-3, in the fifth frame with a kill from Alexis Boling. The Bison then began to put the match away extending their lead to 12-6 following a kill from Blohm. NDSU went on to win the frame, 15-6, and the match, 3-2.

NDSU will be back in action on Saturday at Denver. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. CT
