SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal Poly used an RBI single in the ninth inning to pick up the 5-4 walk-off win over the North Dakota State baseball team on Wednesday night at Baggett Stadium.
Jack Steil provided the Bison (0-4) with an early spark after sending an RBI double into right field to make the score 1-0 in the opening frame.
Davis Hamilton then added an RBI single of his own up the middle before
Kyle Law drilled an RBI single into right field to extend the lead to 3-0 in the opening frame.
Cal Poly (2-2) slowly cut the deficit down to one, 3-2, after Joe Yorke connected on an RBI sacrifice fly in the third frame and then notched an RBI ground out in the fifth inning.
James Dunlap added some insurance for NDSU in the seventh after he scored on a throwing error. However, the Mustangs were able to steal home in the seventh and then score on a passed in the eighth to lock the contest, 4-4. Dylan Knowles then used an RBI single up the middle to secure the 5-4 comeback win in the ninth inning.
The Bison logged eight hits as a team with
Cadyn Schwabe going 2-of-4 at the plate with one run. Hamilton also went 2-of-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Matt Sargeant made the start on the mound with two strikeouts over 2.1 innings.
Joey Danielson (0-1) picked up the loss and finished out the final 1.1 frames.
NDSU will be back in action at Pacific on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. CT
