MORAGA, Calif. – North Dakota State softball split the final day of the Saint Mary's Tournament, topping Marist 2-0 in game one, before falling to host Saint Mary's 12-2 in game two.
Savy Williams was dominant in the first game of the day, tossing the first shutout of the season for the Bison, recording six strikeouts with just four hits and one walk allowed in the 2-0 win over Marist. The Red Foxes would only threaten Williams in the sixth, but Williams produced a pair of strikeouts and a ground out to get NDSU out of the jam.
The Bison would respond in the bottom of the sixth, as
Bella Dean singled to put two runners on to start the inning after an
Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage leadoff walk. Following a sacrifice bunt, Aguilar-Beaucage scored on a wild pitch and then Dean scored on a
Zoe King RBI single for the two Bison runs.
In game two, the Gaels jumped out to a 12-0 lead with four runs in the first and then added eight more in the second, scoring four runs on three different Bison pitchers.
The Bison would pick up two runs in the third on RBIs from Aguilar-Beaucage and
Jasmyn Yessian, but were unable to close the gap any further.
NDSU will now set its sights on Summit League play, as the Bison open up league action on Saturday, March 23 with a doubleheader at Omaha.
