TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped the series opener at Oral Roberts, 7-3, on Friday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Oral Roberts (9-13, 1-3 Summit) grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the second frame after Sam Thompson connected on a two-run home run and Holden Breeze added an RBI triple. Thompson then pushed the edge to 4-0 with his second home run of the night to right field in the fourth inning.
The Bison (5-16, 2-2 Summit) cut the deficit in half in the fifth frame following an RBI single off the bat of
Sam Canton and RBI sacrifice from
Will Busch to make the score 4-2. The Golden Eagles answered back in the sixth scoring three runs on three hits to increase the lead to 7-2 after an RBI sacrifice ground out. NDSU went on to drop the contest, 7-3.
Busch totaled two RBI with one hit, while Canton and
Garret Hill also added one hit each.
Alex Karns (1-1) picked up the loss after going 3.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Nolan Johnson made the start on the hill with
Reese Ligtenberg and
Leland Wilson also making relief appearances.
NDSU will continue its series at Oral Roberts tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
