Bison Rally Past Georgetown to Win Purple/Gold Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Zoe King's two-out single in the bottom of the eighth scored Emilee Buringa with the go-ahead run as North Dakota State defeated Georgetown 4-3 to win the Lipscomb Purple/Gold Challenge on Sunday, March 3, at Draper Diamond.

North Dakota State (10-12) had one hit through the first five innings before Bella Dean launched her fourth home run of the tournament to make it a 2-2 game in the sixth.

Georgetown went ahead in the top of the eighth with a sac bunt and single scoring Gabby Park from second, but the Bison tied it again with Ava Chavarria moving to third on Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage's fly ball and scoring on Dean's sacrifice fly.

Freshman right-hander Madison Wihlm pitched the final five innings for NDSU. She held Georgetown to one hit with two walks and five strikeouts for her second victory of the weekend.

North Dakota State is scheduled to play in the Silicon Valley Classic next weekend with a doubleheader at Santa Clara, a single game against Loyola Marymount, and two games against San Jose State.
