FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team scored nine runs over the final three innings to pick up a 13-3 win over Mayville State in seven innings on Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
Bennett Freiter sparked the Bison (13-22) with his first career hit driving a two RBI single into left to grab a 4-2 lead in the third.
Cadyn Schwabe then followed it up in the fifth frame with a bases-clearing three RBI double to crack open a 7-2 advantage. NDSU went on to plate six runs on five hits in the fifth capped off a by a
Davis Hamilton RBI single to increase the lead to 10-2. The Bison went on to close out the final two innings to secure the 13-3 run-rule victory.
NDSU connected on 16 hits as a team with Schwabe,
Garret Hill and
Sam Canton each contributing three hits and three RBI.
Matt Sargeant made his third start of the season with two strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
Reese Ligtenberg (2-1) earned the win appearing for 1.0 innings, while
Julien Hachem closed out the final frame with a team-best three strikeouts.
NDSU will continue its homestand hosting Omaha on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
