FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Omaha, 7-6, and, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
Omaha (14-24, 12-8 Summit) opened up a 7-3 lead before
Jack Steil sent an RBI double into left field to make the score 7-4 in the fourth inning. The contest then went scoreless for four innings until NDSU (13-24, 9-8 Summit) attempted to get a late rally going in the ninth after
Will Busch scored following a hit by pitch and
Jake Schaffner scored with the bases loaded after walk. However, the Bison went to leave the bases loaded and dropped the contest, 7-6.
NDSU notched six hits as a team with Steil notching two hits and two RBI.
Leland Wilson (1-5) made the start tossing two strikeouts over 5.0 frames.
Alex Karns provided a season-high 4.0 innings of relief with one strikeout.
In game two, both teams traded runs in the first two innings to lock the contest, 2-2. Jackson Trout then sparked the Mavericks with a two-run home run to make the score 4-2 in the third.
Davis Hamilton then pulled the Bison back within one, 4-3, with an RBI double in the fourth inning. The Mavericks answered with an RBI single in the sixth and eighth innings to put the game out of reach and seal the 6-3 victory.
NDSU totaled eight hits as team with Schwabe going 2-of-4 at the plate.
Logan Knight (3-3) made the start tossing eight strikeouts with no walks over 6.0 innings.
Skyler Riedinger and
Seth Thompson also each appeared for one frame and contributed one strikeout each.
NDSU will wrap up its series with Omaha tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
