NDSU Volleyball Stumbles at St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The North Dakota State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at Schoenecker Arena.
Lauren Jansen paced the Bison (11-6, 5-2 Summit) with a match-high 12 kills to go along with four digs. Maddy Dombeck passed out 15 assists with six digs and Rya Borer contributed a match-best 14 digs on the defensive end.
St. Thomas (12-6, 5-2 Summit) used an early 4-0 run in the first set to grab an 11-4 advantage with a kill from Morgan Kealy. The Tommies, who posted a match-best .406 hitting percentage in the frame, extended their lead to 20-10 following an attack error. St. Thomas won the first set, 25-15.
The Tommies carried the momentum into the second frame building a 15-9 lead by the midway point. Following a kill from Baily Randall, St. Thomas used three straight points to extend its edge to 19-12 and forced an NDSU timeout. The Tommies went on to close out the frame, 25-20.
After St. Thomas jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the third set, NDSU fought back with a 4-1 run of its own to cut the deficit to 10-8 with back-to-back kills from Ally Barth. The two teams then traded points until St. Thomas assembled another 4-1 run to push its lead to 21-15 after an attack error. The Tommies held off NDSU the rest of the way to win the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action hosting South Dakota on Tuesday night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
