NDSU Volleyball Tops Omaha to Stay Unbeaten in Summit League Play, 3-1

OMAHA, Neb. – For the second time in the last four seasons, the North Dakota State volleyball team opened Summit League play with a 3-0 record after topping Omaha, 3-1, on Saturday night at Baxter Arena.

Lauren Jansen led the way with a match-high 17 kills and nine digs, while Baily Randall contributed her second double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs. Arianna Blohm also reached double digits in kills with 12 to go along with a team-high five blocks. Cathy Porter picked up her third double-double of the season with a season-best 25 assists and 10 digs. Rya Borer closed out the top performers with a team-best 17 digs on the defensive end.

After Omaha (4-9, 1-3 Summit) stole the first frame that featured a match-high 17 lead changes, 25-22, the Bison (9-4, 3-0 Summit) responded in the second set assembling eight straight points to grab a 22-16 lead. The Mavericks answered with a 4-1 of their own to cut the edge to 23-20 with an ace from Kali Jurgensmeier. However, NDSU closed the set with back-to-back kills from Ally Barth and Randall to win the frame, 25-20.

NDSU carried the energy into the third set running out to a 14-9 edge by the midway point with a block Blohm. The Bison then pushed their lead to 24-19 with a solo block from Jansen. NDSU won the third set, 25-20.

Omaha made one final surge in the fourth frame building a 17-13 lead following an attack error. NDSU slowly pulled its way back trimming the deficit to one, 21-20, with an ace from Porter. After the Mavericks pushed their advantage to 24-21, the Bison stormed back to close the set with five straight points, including two kills from Randall to win the frame, 26-24, and the match, 3-1.

NDSU will be back in action hosting Oral Roberts on Thursday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
