JAMESTOWN, N.D. – North Dakota State wrestling sent eight wrestlers to the Jimmie Open on Sunday, including six true freshmen, and the Bison claimed one title and three-runner up finishes to highlight the event.
 
Zytavius Williams led the way for the Bison, running through the 141-pound weight class to claim first place in his first collegiate dual. Williams started with a tech fall before a win in sudden victory in the quarterfinals. Williams then picked up two more wins by decision, including an 8-1 win over Beau Beavers of Sioux Falls in the final.
 
Kody Tanimoto, Porter Craig and Adam Cherne also reached the finals in their respective weight classes, earning runner-up finishes. Tanimoto started off with a tech fall at 125 pounds before three-straight wins by decision to reach the final, where he fell 10-4 to Sloan Johannsen of Northern State.
 
Craig opened up his collegiate career with a 12-7 victory in his 165-pound quarterfinal match, before securing a tech fall and another win by decision to reach the final. Craig then fell on a late takedown to Mason Schrempp of Northern State in the final.
 
Cherne was dominant on his way to the 197-pound final, securing tree takedowns in the first two matches on his way to a pair of first-period falls. Cherne then had a tech fall in the semifinal, but fell in the final to Michael Murillo of UMary.
 
Aidan Wells recorded three pins and a tech fall in his collegiate debut weekend, securing a first-period pin in his opening match. After a defeat in the quarterfinal, Wells recorded two more first-period falls before decision and a tech fall to reach the third-place match, where he fell to take fourth overall.
 
Luke Hoag and Ben Schultz each battled through wrestlebacks to secure fifth-place finishes. Hoag started off with a pair of falls at 174 pounds and then lost in sudden victory in the semifinal. Following another loss, Hoag came back with a tech fall to claim fifth. Schultz rebounded from a 2-0 loss with a tech fall and major decision before another defeat. He also claimed fifth with a tech fall.
 
Javier Berg closed out the Bison competing with two falls and a major decision before having to withdraw due to a medical forfeit at 125 pounds.
