OGDEN, Utah – The North Dakota State women's basketball team scored 24 points in the third quarter to hold off Weber State, 79-72, fon Saturday afternoon at Dee Events Center in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge.
Avery Koenen logged her third 20-point game of the season with a team-high 21 points with 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. It also marked her third straight double-double and fifth of the season.
Jocelyn Schiller reached double digits in scoring with 10 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
As a team, the Bison (7-2) shot 50.9 percent (27-53) from the field, 50.0 percent (5-10) from three and 80.0 percent (20-25) from the free throw line. The bench also netted 28 points with
Abby Graham contributing nine points on 2-of-3 shooting from three.
After the two teams were tied at the half, 40-40, the Bison started the second half with seven straight points to open up a 47-40 lead following a layup from Schiller at the 7:44 mark. NDSU then went on to push its lead into double digits with a layup from Koenen to make the score 64-53 with 16 seconds to play in the third quarter.
Weber State (2-7) made one final push in the fourth frame trimming the deficit down to six, 74-68, with a 6-2 run capped off by a layup from Sydney White with 42 seconds to play. However, the Bison closed out the remaining time shooting 5-of-6 from the free throw line to secure the 79-72 road win.
NDSU will be back in action at Eastern Illinois on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
