IOWA CITY, Iowa – The North Dakota State men's golf team opened the Hawkeye Invitational on Sunday with the first two rounds of play at Finkbine Golf Course.
The Bison shot rounds of 298 (+10) and 297 (+9) on the first day to sit tied for 11
th in the 13-team field at +19 overall.
Jake Skarperud led the way for the Bison with an opening round of 70 (-2) and second round of 73 (+1). Skarperud fired off four birdies in the first round and three more in the second round to help sit below par in a tie for 19
th overall at -1.
Rylin Petry is the second Bison after day one, carding a 78 (+6) in the first round and then firing a 71 (-1) in the second round with the help of four birdies and an eagle on the sixth hole. Petry climbed 16 spots after the second round to sit in a tie for 49
th at +5.
Ian Simonich,
Josh Galvin, and
Gabe Benson wrapped up the day for the Bison. Simonich shot a 76 (+4) in both rounds to finish the day in a tie for 58
th at +8. Galvin and Benson had identical scorecards for the day, as both recorded a 76 (+4) and 77 (+5) on the day to finish in a tie for 60
th at +9.
NDSU will finish the Hawkeye Invitational on Monday with the third and final round. The final 18-holes will tee off at 8:30 a.m. CT
