NDSU Volleyball Rolls Past Temple, 3-0

FARGO, N.D. – For the first time since 2011, the North Dakota State volleyball team has opened the season with back-to-back sweeps after rolling past Temple, 3-0, on Saturday morning at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Lauren Jansen led the way for NDSU (2-0) with a match-best 11 kills to go along with six digs, one ace and one block. Baily Randall tied a career-best 12 digs with eight kills, while Cathy Porter posted her first career double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs.
NDSU got off to a quick start opening up a 10-5 advantage in the first set with a kill from Jansen. Temple (0-2) answered with a an 8-1 run to steal the lead, 13-11, at the midway point of the frame. The two teams then traded points until the Bison closed the frame on an 8-1 run, which included five attack errors to win the set, 25-20.
NDSU carried the energy into the second frame building a 14-8 advantage with an ace from Randall. The Owls responded with five straight points of their own to cut the deficit down to one, 14-13, following an attack error. However, NDSU held off Temple the rest of the way and finished with set with a 5-1 run to win the frame, 25-21.
Temple pushed back in the third set opening up a 15-11 advantage with a service from Olivia Hummel. The Bison answered with 10 straight points of their own to steal a 21-15 lead with a block from Jansen and Arianna Blohm. NDSU went on to win the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
The Bison will wrap up their homestand hosting Saint Mary's tomorrow. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
