Wheeler-Thomas Buzzer-Beater Caps Bison Comeback at Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – Damari Wheeler-Thomas scored a layup as time expired to lift the North Dakota State men's basketball team to a 78-76 comeback win at Omaha on Saturday afternoon.
NDSU erased a 14-point deficit to improve to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in The Summit League.
Omaha hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 76-76 with 5.7 seconds remaining. Following a timeout, the Bison inbounded and Wheeler-Thomas dribbled the length of the floor to get to the rim for the game-winner.
The Mavericks went ahead by as many as 14 points at 41-27 in the first half. NDSU trailed 44-32 at halftime before outscoring Omaha 46-32 in the second half.
The Bison shot 69 percent after halftime, including 6-of-12 (50 percent) from three-point range.
Sophomore Treyson Anderson led NDSU with 22 points and three blocked shots. Wheeler-Thomas and Trevian Carson both finished with 14 points.
Bison freshman Riley Massey drilled two crucial three-pointers in the second half, first to cut the deficit to seven, and then to pull NDSU within four at 56-52.
The Bison will return home to host South Dakota State on Wednesday, Jan. 14, and St. Thomas on Saturday, Jan. 17, next week.
