NDSU Volleyball Sweeps North Dakota, 3-0

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team rolled past North Dakota, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
With the win, the Bison improve to 11-4 (3-2 Summit) on the season and have won 16 of the last 18 meetings with the Fighting Hawks. North Dakota drops to 7-9 (1-4 Summit) with the loss.
Lauren Jansen led the way with a match-high 17 kills, including seven in the third set. Zoe John totaled 11 kills on 16 attempts for a .688 hitting percentage, while Arianna Blohm also reached double digits in kills with 10. Sarah Pfiffner rounded out the top performers with a match-best 29 assists and eight digs.
Both teams traded points throughout the first set to lock the score 16-16 following a kill from Olivia Edlund. The Bison then put together a key 4-0 run that featured two kills from John to build a 20-16 edge. NDSU, who never trailed in the set, went on to win the frame, 25-22.
The two teams then battled through a match-high 12 ties and seven lead changes in the second set. After North Dakota grabbed a 19-18 edge, NDSU answered with a clutch 3-1 run to steal a 21-20 lead with a kill from Pfiffner. Following another kill Edlund, the Bison closed the set with four straight points to win, 25-21.
NDSU carried the energy over into the third set putting together a 10-0 run to grab a 18-10 lead following a pair of attack errors. The Bison then pushed their edge to 21-12 with a block from Allie Collins and Pfiffner. NDSU closed out the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action hosting South Dakota State on Thursday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
