CORVALLIS, Ore. – North Dakota State wrestling fell in their non-conference finale to No. 25 Oregon State Friday night, dropping the dual 20-11 at Gill Coliseum.
The Bison and Oregon State traded the first four duals, with the hosts taking the first match, but NDSU opened up a five-point lead after winning back-to-back at 149 and 157 to close the first half. However, the Beavers won five-straight to end the dual.
Tristan Daugherty recorded the first win with a 21 decision over Gabe Whisenhunt. Daugherty had a near rideout in the third period to secure a riding time point for the win.
Following Oregon State's second win at 141, #16
Max Petersen recorded the only bonus-point victory of the night, as he secured a tech fall in a top-25 battle, taking down #25 Noah Tolentino six times.
Gavin Drexler then extended the Bison lead with his sixth-straight dual victory, as he secured a late takedown to defeat CJ Hamblin 5-2.
However, Oregon State would secure five decisions over the final matches to secure the comeback and hand NDSU its second-straight defeat.
North Dakota State heads back on the road to close out the final dual of the season, making the trek down I-29 to face rival South Dakota State. The Bison will wrestle at SDSU on Sunday, February 22, taking on the Jackrabbits at First Bank & Trust Arena with the dual set to get underway at 2 p.m.
