NDSU Women’s Basketball Falls Short Against South Dakota State

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team dropped a 59-44 decision against South Dakota State on Wednesday night in front of 3,708 fans inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.
With the loss, NDSU (25-3, 14-1 Summit) saw its 23-game win streak come to a close, which was the longest since 2004-05 and longest in Summit League history. South Dakota State improved to 23-6 (13-2 Summit) on the season.
Avery Koenen led the way with 11 points, five rebounds and three steals. Karrington Asp also netted 11 points with three rebounds, while Jocelyn Schiller notched nine points with three steals and three rebounds.
As a team, the Bison shot 31.3 percent (15-48) from the field and 63.2 percent (12-19) from the free throw line. NDSU also scored 26 points in the paint and 15 points off of turnovers.
After SDSU built a 41-33 lead through three quarters, the Jackrabbits started the fourth frame with a key 11-3 run to stretch their edge to 52-36 after Hadley Thul delivered a layup with 6:14 to play. South Dakota State then started to put the game away growing its largest lead of the night, 59-39, with a pair of free throws from Mahli Abdouch with 3:16 remaining. The Jackrabbits held off the Bison the rest way to pick up the 59-44 win.
NDSU will be back in action hosting North Dakota on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m., with the men's game against North Dakota to follow at 4:00 p.m.
