JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Dakota State softball fell to North Florida 6-0 Sunday afternoon in the finale of the River City Leadoff at the UNF Softball Complex.
After defeating the NCAA Tournament qualifiers from last season in the first meeting yesterday 2-0, the Bison were held to two hits in the rematch.
North Florida would threaten in the second and third innings, capitalizing on a pair of Bison errors to score four runs, three unearned. North Florida would go on to add a run in the fifth and the sixth, scoring on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.
Addie Bowers picked up the loss in her first start of the season. She allowed five runs, but only two earned, in four innings of work. Bowers finished with three strikeouts.
Star Cortez and
Zoe King recorded the only hits of the game for the Bison. Cortez led off the game with a single up the middle and King recorded a double to center field in the fourth inning.
The Bison will have two days off before returning to action on Wednesday as NDSU travels to Daytona Beach, Florida and takes on Bethune-Cookman for the first time in program history. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT at Sunnyland Park.
