LARAMIE, Wyo. – North Dakota State wrestling fell to No. 25 Wyoming 30-9 Sunday afternoon in Big 12 competition at the Uniwyo Sports Complex.
The Bison picked up a pair of victories, with #19
Ezekiel Witt recording a win in the opening match at 125 pounds and
Gavin Drexler claiming a win at 157 pounds.
Witt scored a takedown in the first and added another in the second to go up 6-1 headed to the third. After an escape, he recorded four takedowns against Tucker Bowen to secure a 19-4 tech fall 15 seconds before time expired.
Tristan Daugherty and
Michael Olson had narrow defeats at 133 and 141 pounds, before Wyoming picked up its own tech fall at 149 to go up by six.
Drexler secured his fifth-straight victory at 157 with his second major decision in his last three matches. Drexler jumped out to an early lead with a takedown in the first and added another in the second to go up 6-2. After an escape to start the third, Drexler recorded another takedown and added the riding time point to secure the bonus-point victory.
Following the break, Wyoming would go on a bonus-point run with four of the final five matches being decided by major decision.
North Dakota State heads back on the road, traveling to the west coast to take on Oregon State in the final non-conference dual of the season. The Bison will wrestle at Oregon State on Friday, February 13, taking on the Beavers at Gill Coliseum with the dual set to get underway at 8 p.m. CT.
