FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State softball opened up the home schedule and its Summit League series with St. Thomas on Tuesday, defeating the Tommies 10-2 in six innings for the Program's 1,300
th win.
After falling behind on a two-run home run for St. Thomas (25-11, 6-4 Summit League) in the third, NDSU (20-18, 4-3 Summit League) rallied to score 10 unanswered runs, starting with three in the fourth inning.
Bella Dean tied the game with a two-RBI single and
Lileigh Nieto added an RBI single later in the inning to score
Star Cortez with the go-ahead run.
Mya Boos then hit her fifth home run of the season to lead off the fifth inning and NDSU went on to put up four runs in the inning, including an RBI groundout from Cortez and two more runs on a fielding error.
In the sixth inning,
Ella Claus hit a two-RBI double to left center to start the scoring and
Amai Hanta walked off the game with a single to center to score
Zoe King from third and trigger the run-rule victory.
In the circle,
Jocelyn McClary picked up her third-straight complete game victory, allowing just the two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in six innings of work.
Dean,
Jessica Delatorre, King and Claus all finished with two hits in the game. Dean and Claus also had two RBI each. All nine Bison in the lineup reached base safely at least once, with eight reaching multiple times. NDSU combined for 12 hits and six walks.
With the victory, the Bison softball program tallied win 1,300. NDSU is 1300-995-2 all time in the program's 51
st season.
The Bison will wrap up the series with St. Thomas on Wednesday with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on WDAY Xtra.
