Minnesota Tops NDSU Baseball in Tuesday Night Midweek

The Gophers (23-17, 5-13 B1G) used a leadoff home run from Jack Spanier and an RBI sacrifice fly from Easton Richter to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. After Tyman Long delivered a two-out RBI double in the second, Minnesota pushed across four runs on three hits in the bottom half capped off by a solo home run from Weber Neels to make the score 6-1.
Diego Trujillo attempted to spark the Bison (6-24, 3-8 Summit) with his first home run of the season to deep center field. The two-run shot cut the deficit down 7-3 in the fourth inning. However, Minnesota closed the game scoring five unanswered runs over five innings to seal the 12-3 win after Sam Hunt connected a three RBI home run in the eighth inning.
The Bison totaled three hits as a team with Trujillo going 2-of-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs.
NDSU used a combined eight pitchers in the contest after Garrett Shupe (0-2) made the start tossing one strikeout over 1.1 frames. Cade Wiegert also provided two strikeouts over 1.0 innings in relief.
NDSU will be back in action at Oral Roberts on Friday. The doubleheader, which includes a rescheduled game from March 29, is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
