OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton scored eight runs in the fifth inning to top the North Dakota State baseball team, 16-4, on Wednesday night at Charles Schwab Field.
The Bison (4-20, 1-5 Summit) picked up a pair of base-loaded walks in the first inning to grab an early 2-0 lead after
Chase Womack and
Kaden Connor walked.
Evan Gustafson then increased the lead to 3-0 with his team-leading sixth home run of the season in the third.
Blake Timmons capped the third inning after he delivered a two-out RBI single to left field to extend the edge to 4-0.
Creighton (15-15, 1-2 Big East) then grabbed control of the game scoring 16 unanswered runs, including eight in the fifth inning to close the contest. Issac Wachsmann started the scoring with a solo home run in the fourth before Lew Rice sealed the 16-4 run-rule win with a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
NDSU combined to use 10 different pitchers with
Garrett Shupe making the start tossing one strikeout over 1.0 innings.
Braden Gluth added two strikeouts over 2.0 innings and
AJ Lausten, who made his Bison debut, contributed two strikeouts over 0.2 innings.
