NDSU Volleyball Outlasts UNLV at the Boise State Classic, 3-2

BOISE, Idaho – The North Dakota State volleyball team outlasted UNLV, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Boise State Classic at ExtraMile Arena.
Arianna Blohm paced the Bison (4-1) with a career-best 23 kills to go along with a .435 hitting percentage and four blocks. Zoe John (12), Emma Tallman (11), and Lauren Jansen (11) also all reached double figures in kills. Sarah Pfiffner tied a career-best 42 assists with a career-high 12 digs, while Maddy Dombeck and Rya Borer each contributed 17 digs on the defensive end.
The two teams worked through a tight opening frame that saw 12 ties and six lead changes. After the Bison grabbed a 20-19 lead following a pair of kills from Tallman and Blohm, the Rebels (0-5) responded with four straight points to regain the lead, 23-20. UNLV went on to hold off the Bison the rest of the way, 25-21.
The Bison responded in the second frame sprinting out to a 12-5 lead after a block from Kendall Worwa and Pfiffner. NDSU, who never trailed in the set, increased its lead to 18-10 with another kill from Blohm. The Bison won the frame, 25-15.
The two teams once again went back and forth in the third frame that featured eight ties and three lead changes. After the Bison pulled within one, 21-20, following an attack error, UNLV answered with a clutch 3-0 run to push its lead to 24-20. The Rebels went on to win the third set, 25-21.
The Bison answered back in the fourth frame opening up a 9-3 edge with a block from John. NDSU then increased its lead to 21-12 with back-to-back kills from John and Blohm. The Bison went on to win the set, 25-15.
Both teams then battled through six tie scores in the fifth frame. NDSU was able to grab a late 14-13 lead with another kill from Blohm. After the Rebels locked the set with a kill from Basia Latos, NDSU connected on a pair of kills from Jansen and Blohm to seal the frame, 16-14, and the match, 3-2.
NDSU will be back in action against Montana State at the Bobcat Invitational on Thursday. First serve is set for 8:00 p.m. CT
