Matt Scheerer joined the NDSU athletic department in June 2026 as the Team Makers marketing and communications associate.
Scheerer worked the previous three years as the associate director of communications for the University of North Dakota alumni association, where he wrote multi-million dollar gift proposals for capital projects, student programming, faculty support and scholarships. He also stewarded donors and alumni with feature profiles for the alumni magazine.
Scheerer spent wo years as the promotions director for NDSU performing arts, where he supported the communications and marketing efforts for the music and theater departments from 2021 to 2023. He also has experience in professional soccer as a box office associate for the Portland Timbers from 2017 to 2019.
A veteran of college athletics, he worked in the athletic communications office at UND from 2019 to 2021 and at Northern Illinois from 2011 to 2017. He got his start as a sports information assistant at Minnesota-Crookston (2006-08) before interning at Harvard (2008-09) and working as the new media coordinator at Portland State (2009-11).
Scheerer graduated from the Minnesota-Crookston with a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management, and he earned a master's degree in non-profit leadership from the University of Jamestown.
