Dobmeier, Brown Hit Double Digits in First North Dakota State Win

Box Score

MARSHALL, Minn.--Senior guard Adam Dobmeier scored a season-high 14 points and freshman center Andrew Brown scored 12 points off the bench as North Dakota State picked up its first men's basketball victory of the season by a 73-45 count over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, Nov. 27, in the U.S. Bancorp Classic.

Brown, a 6-foot-7 product of Dickinson, N.D., also had a game-high eight rebounds and two blocks in just his fourth game with NDSU (1-3) after redshirting last season.

Bison guard Phil Hahn, North Dakota State's only selection to the all-tournament team, scored a game-high 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting plus a 7-for-7 night at the free-throw line.  He also had seven assists and three steals.

Neither team shot well early as the Bison and Mustangs (2-3) combined for only 16 points in the first 10 1/2 minutes.  Finally, at the 9:09 mark of the first half, a Dobmeier 3-pointer put the Bison in double digits with an 11-8 lead they would not surrender.

NDSU led 29-16 at halftime and ran away with the game after the break, never trailing by fewer than 10 points while going on to the 28-point win.  The Bison limited Southwest to 35.4 percent shooting (17-for-48) in the game and forced 22 Mustang turnovers while committing a season-low 14.

Nine Bison players entered the scoring column with David Erbes picking up eight points and Myron Green, Andy Kelchen and Matt Gerber each collecting six.  Erbes followed Brown as the game's second leading rebounder with six boards as NDSU won the backboards, 38-29.

Hahn joined Southwest Minnesota State's Elijah Starzl, Northern State's Aaron Busack, and Minnesota State-Mankato's Luke Anderson and Jamel Staten on the all-tournament team.  Staten was named MVP after scoring 33 points in Friday's win over Southwest and 25 in Saturday's win over Northern.

North Dakota State's next game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4, at Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D.  The Wolves dealt NDSU a 79-72 loss Friday in the U.S. Bancorp Classic.
