NDSU Soccer Stays Undefeated at Home With Shutout Over Montana

Box Score

FARGO, N.D.?After playing an all-away schedule in 2004, the North Dakota State women's soccer team continued to stay undefeated at home in 2005 with a 3-0 victory against the University of Montana on Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Ellig Sports Complex.

With the wind at their backs in the first half, Kelsey Hohol scored NDSU's first goal of the contest with a laser shot from 30 yards away.

In the 19th-minute of play, Hohol launched the ball over charging Montana goalkeeper Sarah Braseth. The ball carried the length of the box and descended just in time to fall below the crossbar and into the net.

The eventual game-winner at 18:11, Hohol's first goal on the year also marked the 15th different player to score a goal for NDSU this season.

The Bison collected a pair of second-half goals to put the game out of reach. After receiving the ball from teammate Michelle Martinez, Jessica Rodgers provided the second NDSU score with a straight shot from 15 yards away in the 59th minute.

Martinez answered with a goal of her own at the 75:44 mark when the sophomore beat Braseth in a one-on-one encounter and easily lobbed in a shot from inside the box for her eighth goal of the season.

With the win, NDSU improved to 9-4-1 on the season with a 5-0 ledger at home. Eight of the nine NDSU wins have been by shutout. Montana dropped its sixth straight loss in the defeat.

Karli Kopietz recorded her sixth shutout of the year after stopping four shots. Braseth also had four saves in the loss.

NDSU returns to action on Friday, Oct. 21, when they host Utah Valley State at 3 p.m. The Bison play their final home match of the season on Sunday, Oct. 23, against South Dakota State with a noon kickoff.
