Box Score FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Jason Smith had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Michael Harrison added 13 of his 17 points in the second half to lead Colorado State to a 79-62 victory over North Dakota State Wednesday night.
Foul trouble limited Smith to 25 minutes. Harrison, Michael Morris and Cory Lewis, who had 16 points, picked up the slack for Smith for Colorado State (3-0).
Ben Woodside led all scorers with 26 points and was 14-for-14 from the free throw line for North Dakota State (1-2). Mike Nelson had 13 points.
Morris keyed a 12-2 run with six points to put Colorado State ahead 44-33 five minutes into the second half. The Bison stayed within striking distance with an 8-0 run, and when Smith sat down with his fourth foul, Tom Lunde buried two 3-pointers in a minute stretch as North Dakota State closed the gap to 52-51 with 9:05 left.
Smith returned with 7:04 remaining to score seven consecutive points for the Rams to put them ahead 66-55. With the score 68-59, Lewis and Harrison combined for all the points in an 8-0 run that sealed the game for Colorado State.
Colorado State led by 26-20 late in the first half after a fadeaway jumper by Smith. But Phil Hahn sank a 3-pointer for the Bison to get them within 28-27 by halftime.
Woodside, with a perfect night at the foul line, tied the NDSU single-game record for free throw percentage set by Warren Arman against North Dakota in 1957 and tied by Ben Nemmers against St. Cloud State in 2004.
North Dakota State returns to action against 1-0 Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Bison Sports Arena in Fargo.
