Box Score FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State University overcame a season-high 21 turnovers by shooting 52.5 percent from the floor to defeat Minnesota State Moorhead 83-68 in a women's basketball game played Tuesday, Dec. 13, before a crowd of 1,224 at the Bison Sports Arena.
NDSU extended its homecourt win streak to 16 games dating back to the 2003-04 season. It's one of the top current homecourt win streaks in NCAA Division I women's basketball. North Dakota State (4-4) is scheduled to host NCAA Division II's 22nd-ranked Minnesota-Duluth (10-1) at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16.
The Bison raced out to a double-digit lead in the game's opening five minutes. Ali Sonstelie hit a jumper to put NDSU ahead 14-4 with 14:37 left -- a double-figure advantage North Dakota State would maintain the rest of the game.
North Dakota State led 39-27 at halftime. Brenda Slyt's traditional three-point play with 38-seconds left gave NDSU it's biggest lead at 83-63.
However, the Dragons hit 50.9 percent from the field and stayed close behind the game-high 24 points from Allison Swenson. Swenson hit 9-of-13 attempts from the field. MSU Moorhead scored 19 points off of Bison turnovers, also received 10 points from reserve Meghan Rettke.
Katie Lorenz led a group of three NDSU players with 20 points, while Brandee Gibbs hit 7-of-7 from the field and finished with 15 points. Sonstelie also had the hot hand, hitting 5-of-6 field goal attempts. The Bison held a 39-24 advantage in rebounding led by Lisa Bue's game-high eight caroms.
North Dakota State hit 18-of-21 from the free throw line as Lorenz hit 5-of-5 and Katie Dahlen made all four of her tries.
