North Dakota State Comes Back to Defeat Milwaukee 67-64 On The Road

MILWAUKEE, Wis.--Emily Moran hit the eventual game-winning three-pointer with 57 seconds left as North Dakota State defeated Milwaukee 67-64 in a women's college basketball game played Thursday, Dec. 20, before a crowd of 521 in the Klotsche Center.

North Dakota State (5-5) is scheduled to play at Green Bay (6-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in the Kress Center. The Phoenix defeated Arizona 81-59 in Green Bay.

The Bison kept Milwaukee (3-6) winless at home as the Panthers suffered their fourth loss at Klotsche. NDSU improved to 3-3 on the road this season.

Along with the three-pointer, Moran came up with an important steal with 44.5 seconds left and then Amanda Girodat found Brenda Slyt for a layup to seal the win with 12 seconds remaining. The Bison rallied from a nine-point deficit in the final nine minutes.

NDSU shot 55.6 percent (15 of 27) from the field in the second half and 52.6 percent (30-57) in the game. Milwaukee shot only 39.6 percent from the field in the game. Jerri Penley tallied eight of her 11 points and Slyt netted 10 of her 15 in the final period. Slyt added nine rebounds.

North Dakota State led 35-32 at halftime after leading by as many as 10 points. The Bison have led at the intermission 9-of-10 games this season.

Moran went on a personal 8-0 run hitting a pair of three-pointers during one stretch that put the Bison ahead 35-25 with 3:08 left in the opening period. Moran scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the first half. Lisa Bue had 15 points.

However, Milwaukee closed to within three on a Emily Markert's traditional three point play with less than a minute to play. 

The Panthers played most of the first half without leading scorer Traci Edwards who picked up her second foul less than five minutes into the game. Edwards scored all but two of her 14 points in the second half.

Turquoise McCain turned in a solid performance with 12 points and 10 rebounds as Milwaukee outrebounded NDSU 36-33. Both teams committed 14 turnovers.
