
North Dakota State Women Control Tempo In 81-48 Win Over Utah Valley State

FARGO, N.D.--Emily Moran scored 18 points to lead a group of four players in double-figures as North Dakota State University controlled the tempo in an 81-48 win over Utah Valley State in a Division I independent women's basketball game played Thursday, Feb. 15, before 873 fans at the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State (11-10), which has won four of its last five games and three in a row, is scheduled to host the University of Texas-Pan American (10-16) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. Saturday's game will be the final home appearance for NDSU seniors Katie Dahlen, Kayla Dahlen, Amanda Girodat and Danni Heintzelman. UTPA lost at South Dakota State 78-55 in Brookings on Thursday night.
The game was tied twice early, the last time at 6-6 when Utah Valley State's Rebekah Peterson hit a three-pointer with 14:40 left.
North Dakota State then went on a 26-2 run over a 10-minute span in the first half. The Wolverines didn't score for seven minutes during that stretch as the NDSU lead ballooned to 32-8 on a pair of free throws from Brenda Slyt.
The Bison controlled the boards, hassled Utah Valley State on defense and had six different players score during the first half run including Heintzelman, who scored 11 of her 15 points in the first half. It was Heintzelman who sparked NDSU's 71-63 win over Utah Valley State on Jan. 27.
Heintzelman was a pain again for the Wolverines, hitting 11-of-12 free throws. NDSU hit 26-of-32 free throws for 81.3 percent compare to 9-of-13 free throws for UVSC.
North Dakota State, which led 46-20 at halftime, was never threatened in the second half. The biggest NDSU lead was 81-46 with 1:39 left on a Megan Shea pass to Inger Hodgson on the break. Girodat had 14 points and added seven assists, while Lisa Bue netted 11 points to round out the double-figure scorers. Girodat had a string of seven straight three-pointers made over the last three games snapped. Twelve different Bison players scored overall.
Both teams shot poorly from the field, NDSU at 32.9 percent and Utah Valley State at 30.4 percent. The Bison did benefit from a season-low 10 turnovers. Utah Valley State had 23 turnovers that led to 21 NDSU points.
Jenna Lemnus grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds as North Dakota State outrebounded the Wolverines 56-38. Heintzelman and Kayla Dahlen each finished with eight rebounds.
Julie McMurray led Utah Valley State with 18 points, while Robyn Fairbanks had 13 points and nine rebounds.
