
NDSU Football Assistant Steve Laqua Resigns

North Dakota State head football coach Craig Bohl announced two-year assistant coach Steve Laqua has resigned. Laqua, who was the running backs/tight ends coach the past two seasons for NDSU, plans to spend more time with his family.
Laqua returned to North Dakota State after serving as the offensive coordinator and running backs/tight ends coach at the University of Minnesota-Crookston in 2004. Prior to working at UMC, he was the outside linebackers/safeties coach at St. Olaf College.
The Cavalier, N.D. native played quarterback and strong safety at NDSU from 1997-2001. He was twice honorable mention on the North Central Conference all-academic team. 2000 CoSIDA Academic All-District third team pick. Laqua began his coaching career at NDSU as a graduate assistant in January, 2002.
Steve and his wife Patty have three children.
North Dakota State completed the 2006 season with a 10-1 record under the direction of Bohl, including an 8-0 record against Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) schools and a 29-24 win over Mid-American Conference member Ball State.
The Bison went 4-0 to win the Great West Football Conference championship -- the program's first league title since 1994 when NDSU was a member of the Division II North Central Conference.
North Dakota State was ranked No. 5 in The Sports Network and CSN Coaches final Top 25 polls. The Bison lost 10-9 to bowl-participant Minnesota of the Big Ten at the Metrodome.
The Bison are scheduled to begin spring practice March 21. NDSU will have 15 practice sessions culminating with the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 21.
