
North Dakota State Tops SME Network Great West Preseason Ranking

Projecting the Great West
Last season the Great West Conference proved to be one of the best in the nation. This year will be no different. The Great West placed three teams in the SME Network Top 25 and with a fourth school receiving votes as well. The North Dakota State Bison, ranked #4 according the SME Network, are projected to take the top spot in the Great West. Cal Poly, UC-Davis, and South Dakota State will all be in the hunt in what should be a dogfight all season long. There is also Southern Utah which owns the toughest schedule in the FCS.

Projecting the Big South
Coastal Carolina is projected to be on top of the Big South Conference for 2007. Last year the Chanticleers were an at large selection to the FCS playoffs losing to eventual champion Appalachian State. Coastal will have some pressure behind them from an up and coming Liberty squad.

North Dakota State completed the 2006 season with a 10-1 record under the direction of Craig Bohl, including an 8-0 record against FCS schools and a 29-24 win over Mid-American Conference member Ball State. The Bison went 4-0 to win the Great West Football Conference championship -- the program's first league title since 1994 when NDSU was a member of the Division II North Central Conference.
NDSU was ranked No. 5 in The Sports Network and CSN Coaches final 2006 Top 25 polls. The Bison lost 10-9 to bowl-participant Minnesota of the Big Ten at the Metrodome.
The Bison open the 2007 season against Stephen F. Austin at 6 p.m., Sept. 8, at the Fargodome.
