
Bison Trounce IPFW in Home Summit League Debut, 94-67

FARGO, N.D. (AP)--Mike Nelson made all four of his 3-point attempts and scored 22 points as North Dakota State won its Summit League home debut Thursday, beating IPFW 94-67.
Nelson was 9-for-11 from the field for the Bison (8-6, 2-1), who shot 61 percent against the Mastodons. He had 15 points in the first half to help NDSU build a 20-point lead.
NDSU has won 16 straight regular-season home games.
The Bison were 11-for-19 on 3-point attempts.
Bison forward Brett Winkelman had 24 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Michael Tveidt had 13 points, Josh Vaughan 12 points and Ben Woodside 11.
IPFW (5-9, 2-1) pulled within 15-12 with 14:27 left in the first half on two Zach Plackemeier free throws. But the Bison went on a 20-3 run over the next six minutes, capped by Woodside's 3-pointer to give NDSU a 35-15 lead.
The Bison shot 63 percent in the first half and held IPFW to 38 percent to take a 48-28 halftime lead.
The Mastodons got no closer than 12 points in the second half.
David Carson and Jaraun Burrows led IPFW with 16 points apiece. Burrows had nine rebounds and Carson added eight.
Ben Botts scored 11 points for the Mastodons.
North Dakota State hosts Oakland at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Golden Grizzlies (7-7, 2-1) won 73-72 at South Dakota State on Thursday.
