ELMHURST, Ill. ? Three North Dakota State players earned all-league honors The Summit League announced today. Junior Lorraine Thompson was selected to the all-league second team, while freshmen Danielle Boldenow and Michelle Gaffaney were both named to the all-newcomer team.
A second team selection, Thompson led the Bison in all offensive categories this year, tallying six goals and four assists for 16 points. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native scored one goal in league play on a penalty kick against Southern Utah. She set a single game career-high with three assists against Centenary. Thompson was named Summit League Offensive Player of the Week on August 25 after recording a goal and assist in a 2-0 win over Murray State.
Boldenow notched three goals and an assist for the Bison in her freshman campaign. She saw action in every game, while earning starts in four. She scored her first goal of her career in a 3-2 loss to Northern Iowa. She also tallied goals in back-to-back games against Oral Roberts and Centenary.
Gaffaney started the season on attack, scoring the game-winner in the second game of the season against Murray State. Despite playing a role in central defense, Gaffaney continued to be a scoring threat, tallying three more goals over the course of the season. A starter in every game, she also had an assist against Southern Utah. Earlier this season, she was named to the Jackrabbit Invitational All-Tournament team after limiting Eastern Washington's high powered offense to one goal and scoring the game-tying goal against the Eagles.
In two years of Summit league play, the Bison have now had four players selected to the all-league second team and five named to the all-newcomer team.
South Dakota State led the league with eight selections, including four first team honorees. Oakland senior Jessica Boyle was named Offensive Player of the Year and South Dakota State's Kerstyn Farrell was named Defensive Player of the Year. IUPUI's Alicia Brock earned Newcomer of the Year honors and Jaguars head coach Chris Johnson picked up the Coach of the Year award.
North Dakota State finished the season 5-12-2 with a 2-5-1 mark in league play, good for seventh place.
