
Woodside Leads Bison to 98-77 Victory Over Georgia Southern

DES MOINES, Iowa--Tournament MVP Ben Woodside had 31 points and tied a career high with 10 assists to lead North Dakota State to a 98-77 victory over Georgia Southern in the third-place game of the Drake Hy-Vee Classic on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Woodside made four 3-pointers and was 11-for-12 at the free-throw line one night after making an NCAA record 30 free throws in a triple-overtime loss to Stephen F. Austin.
Five Bison players scored in double figures including Mike Nelson with 18 points and Brett Winkelman with 15.
Winkelman completed his fourth straight double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds as North Dakota State (5-3) outrebounded Georgia Southern 42-26.
Michael Tveidt was 5-for-5 from the field and finished with 12 points, and Eric Carlson scored 10 off the bench in the first half.
Woodside and Nelson each had 15 points by halftime as the Bison took a 55-39 lead at intermission. Georgia Southern was no closer than 11 points in the second half.
NDSU made 10 of 18 three-pointers and shot 53 percent overall. The Bison were 26-for-30 at the foul line for 87 percent.
Willie Powers was 11-for-17 from the field and led Georgia Southern with 26 points. Julian Allen added 19 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Eagles (3-5).
North Dakota State returns home to face Valley City State at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18.
