
North Dakota State Holds Off IPFW, 67-60

FORT WAYNE, Ind.--Ben Woodside had 21 points, seven assists and four steals to lead North Dakota State to a 67-60 victory over IPFW in Summit League men's basketball Wednesday, Dec. 31, before a crowd of 1,156 at Memorial Coliseum.
Brett Winkelman added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bison, who improved to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in The Summit League. IPFW fell to 5-9 overall and 0-3 in the league.
NDSU center Lucas Moormann scored eight of his 10 points in the second half as the Bison held off IPFW and forward David Carson, who had 25 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mastodons trimmed a 16-point deficit to 50-49 when Carson made 1 of 2 free throws with 5:46 to play.
NDSU responded with consecutive 3-pointers by Woodside and Mike Nelson to go up 56-51. Nelson finished with 13 points.
A Woodside steal and layup with 49 seconds left gave NDSU a 63-53 advantage and the Bison made four of their last five foul shots to seal the win.
North Dakota State led 34-20 at halftime. The Bison closed the half on a 15-6 run while IPFW made only two field goals in the last 10 minutes.
NDSU had a 42-31 rebounding advantage, including 17 offensive rebounds. The Bison committed only seven turnovers.
IPFW shot 41.7 percent from the field, including 57.9 percent in the second half. NDSU connected for 35.9 percent from the field.
Ben Botts was the only other double-figure scorer for IPFW. Botts had all 13 of his points in the second half.
North Dakota State plays at Oakland at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 2. The Golden Grizzlies hosted South Dakota State on Wednesday afternoon.
