North Dakota State Men?s Track and Field Sign Two Athletes to National Letters of Intent

FARGO, N.D.?North Dakota State head men's track and field coach Don Larson announced Wednesday that he has signed two athletes to national letters of intent for the 2008-09 school year. Brad Monahan (Watertown, S.D.) and Travis Fitzke (Pierre, S.D.) will both compete for the Bison next season.

"We are extremely excited to have these two kids coming to NDSU," Larson said. "Both of them were very heavily recruited at the Division I level. They were both in our top handful of kids we were recruiting."

NDSU will make its first appearance in The Summit League championships for both indoor and outdoor competition this season. For the past three years, the Bison have competed in the independent outdoor championships and claimed team titles each year.

Below are some notes on each of the new North Dakota State track and field athletes:

BRAD MONAHAN Watertown, S.D. (Watertown H.S.)
State champion in the triple jump in 2007 and sixth in the long jump...School record holder in the triple jump and holds the third farthest jump in state history in the event...Eastern South Dakota champion in the triple jump...Holds a personal best of 47-3...Son of Ryan Monahan and Janelle Anderson...Plans to major in mechanical engineering.

TRAVIS FITZKE Pierre, S.D. (Pierre H.S.)
State cross country champion in 2007...All-American in 2007...Three-time all-state selection in track and a four-time all-state selection in cross country...State champion in the mile in 2007...Member of the state championship sprint medley relay...Helped his team to a state championship in 2007...Member of the National Honor Society...Son of Terry Fitzke and Sarah Hermanson...Plans to major in pre-professional programming.
