
Utah State Pulls Away For 58-46 Win Over North Dakota State

LOGAN, Utah--Utah State University broke open a close game midway in the second half to defeat North Dakota State University 58-46 in a women's college basketball game played Monday, Dec. 14, before a crowd of 783 in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
North Dakota State (5-5) is scheduled to host Northern State University (3-6) at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in the Bison Sports Arena. NDSU is 2-1 at home this season.
Utah State (4-4), which improved to 3-0 at home this season, went on a 6-0 run midway in the second half to create distance. Trisha Jo Goddard and Alice Coddington each hit three-points, and an Amber White steal led to a Goddard layup to put the hosts ahead 40-34 with 11:30 left.
The Aggies shot 54.5 percent from the field in the second half including 3 of 4 from the three-point line. NDSU made only 29 percent from the field.
The Aggies closed out the first half with a 10-6 run led by Banna Diop and White. White scored 11 of her team-high 13 points, while Diop had four of her five blocks and scored seven points in the opening period.
However, three-pointers from Katie Birkel and Inger Hodgson helped the Bison close to within 24-23 at halftime. Hodgson finished with a game-high 14 points, five assists and four steals. Birkel had 10 points, five steals and four assists.
Utah State shot 45.8 percent from the field overall compared to 31 percent for North Dakota State. The Aggies held a 38-29 rebounding advantage and also blocked 11 shots. Nicole Johnson and Diop each had five blocks for Utah State.
The game was tied seven times including three occasions in the final period.
