
Fast Start, Long Range Shooting Lift North Dakota State Women To 69-55 Road Win

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.--North Dakota State gained the lead early and hit a season-high 11 three-pointers as the Bison defeated IUPUI 69-55 in a Summit League women's basketball game played Saturday, Dec. 5, before 437 spectators at The Jungle. It was the league opener for both teams.
North Dakota State (4-3, 1-0 Summit League) is scheduled to play at Western Illinois (2-5, 0-1 Summit League) on Monday, Dec. 7, in Macomb. The Fighting Leathernecks lost 74-53 to South Dakota State on Saturday.
Freshman Hannah Linz hit three of her four three-pointers in the first half as NDSU passed its season best for treys (5) in the opening period. The Bison hit 7 of 13 from the three-point line in the first half and finished 11 of 25 overall from the arc.
Linz scored 12 points and added a season best three assists including a pass to Inger Hodgson for a layup giving NDSU its biggest lead of the opening period at 37-23 with 1:24 left in the first half. The Bison led 38-27 at halftime.
Hodgson led a trio of NDSU players in double-figures with 15 points. She hit 3 of 6 three-pointers and also sparked the defense with a career-high six steals.
The Bison came up with a season-high 14 steals and forced 24 turnovers that lead to 30 points. Ashley Samuelson finished with 10 points, while Katie Birkel added eight points, six assists and three steals.
IUPUI (1-7, 0-1 Summit) couldn't get closer than 10 points in the second half. The Jaguars shot 41.9 percent from the field compared to 47.2 percent for North Dakota State, but held a 34-25 rebounding advantage. Jessica Huffman and Kerah Nelson each had 13 points to lead IUPUI.
