Late Field Goal Lifts Sam Houston State To 48-45 Win Over North Dakota State

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -Freshman Miguel Antonio kicked a 24-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining to give Sam Houston State a 48-45 non-conference victory Saturday over North Dakota State.

North Dakota State looks to rebound against Wagner College (1-1) in the home opener Sept. 19. NDSU lost two games to start the season for the first time since 1981 when Bison dropped road games at Northern Michigan and Northern Arizona.

Sam Houston drove 72 yards in 10 plays for the game-winning score.

Blake Joseph completed 24 of 36 passes for 482 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bearkats (1-1). Wide receiver Jason Madkins caught six passes for 239 yards and one TD. James Aston had touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards and caught an 18-yard TD pass from Joseph.

Nick Mertens completed 14 of 26 passes to eight different receivers for 231 yards and three touchdowns for the Bison (0-2). Pat Paschall ran 20 times for 176 yards and a touchdown. He topped his career-high for the second straight week and has six career 100-yard efforts.

Sam Houston State piled up 620 total yards to 419 for North Dakota State.
