BROOKINGS, S.D.--Macie Michelson scored 15 of her career-high 23 points in the second half as South Dakota State University defeated North Dakota State University 74-49 in a Summit League women's basketball game played before 3,240 spectators on Saturday, Feb. 13, in Frost Arena.

North Dakota State (13-11, 8-6 Summit), who has lost 10 straight to SDSU, stays on the road. The Bison are scheduled to play at Oakland University (13-12, 10-4 Summit) at 2 p.m. (Central) on Saturday, Feb. 20, in Rochester. The Golden Grizzlies beat UMKC 73-53 in Kansas City.

South Dakota State (14-9, 11-3 Summit) used an aggressive defense and inside-outside attack to turn back NDSU and keep pace with Oral Roberts in the Summit League standings.

Michelson hit 9 of 13 field goal attempts including 3 of 4 three-pointers She added six assists. The Jackrabbits made 51.9 percent from the field including 57.1 percent in the second half. Maria Boever scored 16 points and Kristin Rotert had 11 points. 

SDSU made 9 of 20 three-pointers including five treys at key times to build a 32-20 halftime advantage.

South Dakota State scored eight unanswered points to open the second half, while NDSU was held to only six free throws for the first 9:20 of the second half until Danielle DeGagne's layup with 10:40 remaining. However, the Jackrabbits lead had ballooned to 48-28.

Ashley Samuelson led North Dakota State with 12 points and 10 rebounds to record her fourth "double-double" of the season and the seventh of her career. Samuelson, who was the only NDSU player in double figures, has four "double-doubles" over the past six games.

South Dakota State made only 11 turnovers and scored 27 points off 24 NDSU miscues. The Bison shot 34.9 percent from the field and held a 35-23 rebounding advantage.
