
Thomas Last Second Drive Lifts UMKC Past North Dakota State 76-75 in Overtime

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--LeAndrea Thomas drove and hit a layup with 1.4 seconds left to lift UMKC past North Dakota State 76-75 in overtime Sunday, March 7, in The Summit League women's basketball tournament at the Sioux Falls Arena.
The Kangaroos (16-14) advance to play No. 1 seed Oral Roberts (22-8) at 12:05 p.m. Monday, March 8, in the semifinals.
North Dakota State (16-13) took the lead with 7.2 seconds left when Katie Birkel made 1 of 2 free throws.
Thomas, who took only two shots in the game, drove the length of the court down the right side and hit the game-winning layup.
Abby Plucker's desperation three-pointer inside the halfcourt line at the buzzer hit the back of the rim and bounded away.
Plucker hit a jump shot and a pair of free throws that put the Bison ahead 72-68 with 2:49 left in overtime. Heather Davis then hit a three-pointer with 1:52 left falling on her backside. Zaruba countered with a layup inside, but Chazny Morris hit a long three-pointer that tied the game at 74-all with 1:05 left.
Morris led UMKC with a game-high 30 points. Morris made 11 of 20 field goal attempts and tied a league tournament hitting 7 of 14 three-pointers. Jade Tinner added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Zaruba scored 18 points to pace a group of four Bison in double-figures with 18 points. Birkel finished with 17 points, while Inger Hodgson finished with 15 and Plucker added 11.
Plucker pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. NDSU held a 41-35 advantage on the glass.
North Dakota State jumped out to 10-0 in the game's first three minutes.
However, Morris scored 16 of her game-high total in the first half and hit a short jumper that gave the Kangaroos a 29-28 lead with 2:45 left. UMKC hit 52.2 percent from the field in the first half and 50.9 percent for the game. The Bison made only 40.9 percent from the field.
Brianna Eldridge and Dayon Hall-Jones combined to hit 3 of 4 free throws to put UMKC ahead 32-28 at halftime.
