BROOKINGS, S.D. - The North Dakota State soccer team had its 12-game
unbeaten streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to South Dakota State in the Summit
League regular season finale on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Jackrabbits
(12-5-2, 8-0-1 Summit) claim the Summit League regular season title as well as
the top seed in the league tournament.
The Jacks struck first in the 22nd minute as Kelsey Ferguson slotted home a pass from Megan Kingston.
Ferguson added a second just after halftime, scoring from the top of the box to give South Dakota State a 2-0 lead.
The Bison pulled one back in the 63rd minute as senior Kaylee McDonald scored her first goal of the season. McDonald controlled a pass from freshman Anisha Kinnarath and put the ball in the back of the net from five yards out. The goal was the first that South Dakota State has allowed in Summit League play this season.
The Jacks responded with their third goal of the night as Christa Nyblom chipped keeper Kalani Bertsch in the 77th minute.
Taylor Stainbrook and Morgan DeMike both had late looks at goal, but South Dakota State keeper Kat Donovan came up with a pair of saves.
NDSU finished the game with a 15-13 edge in shots and a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Bertsch made two saves, while Donovan made eight for SDSU.
The Bison will next play in the Summit League tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4 in Rochester, Mich. NDSU will aim to defend its 2010 tournament title.
