
McCorkle, IPFW Roll Past Bison in Second Half, 73-61

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Trey McCorkle scored a season-high 22 points off the bench to lead IPFW to a 73-61 win over North Dakota State in Summit League men's basketball Saturday, Feb. 19, before a crowd of 4,059 at Memorial Coliseum.
Frank Gaines added 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks for the Mastodons, who improved to 17-10 overall and 10-6 in the league.
Michael Tveidt scored 13 points and Drew Lundberg had 12 for North Dakota State, which fell to 13-14 overall and 7-10 in the league.
The game was tied five times, the last at 19-19 when Lundberg made 1 of 2 free throws 2:57 before halftime. IPFW went on an 18-3 run from there to go ahead 37-22 on McCorkle's layup at the 16:40 mark of the second half.
The Mastodons shot 55 percent in the second half and went up by as many as 19 points when McCorkle scored on a fast break to make it 62-43 with 5:18 left in the game.
NDSU went to the full-court press in the final three minutes of the game and was able to force four late turnovers. Lundberg had eight points in the final 3:06, and the Bison were as close as 64-56 on TrayVonn Wright's layup at the 2:09 mark.
IPFW shot 45 percent compared to 38 percent for NDSU. The Bison shot a season-low 28 percent in the first half making 7 of 25 attempts.
The Mastodons had a 39-33 rebounding advantage led by six apiece from Gaines, Zach Plackemeier and Ben Botts.
Taylor Braun had a game-high eight rebounds for NDSU and Tveidt and Freddy Coleman added six apiece. Braun added a season- and game-high four steals.
North Dakota State is scheduled to close out the regular season against South Dakota State at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at the Bison Sports Arena.
